I am the founder of Hi Altitude Training, I have been walking, mountaineering and working in the Sierra Nevada Mountains since 2005, doing a mixture of activities such as, Summer walks, winter guiding, winter skills courses, skiing and ski touring and the week long 3000 meter traverse of the Sierra Nevada with People from all over the world from single individuals to groups of 20 or more.
I started fitness training on my own when I was 13, as 37 years ago there was little to cater for teens fitness then, I trained in my bedroom and I ran around the local area whilst also taking part in every sport school had to offer.
In 1981 at the age of 16 I set myself a Goal to become a Paratrooper. After much hard work and setting steps along the way I achieved this 2 years later by joining the Parachute Regiment and serving abroad in various locations.
I am a Qualified Mountain Leader and a Qualified Life Coach.
I founded Hi ALTITUDE TRAINING for Mountaineering or any other Sport and qualified as a Life Coach so I can combine my love for mountains and understand more of how to help people push their boundaries so they have the ability to achieve their goals and grow as an individual.
In 1999 I started a 6 year Career working for Durham County Council Looking after Children with challenging behavior in various Children’s Homes throughout the County.
In 2012 I decided to mix working with Children, Travel and Guiding by working for Outlook Expeditions leading School groups on Expeditions to various Countries including Peru, Bolivia, Morocco and Venezuela for up to a Month at a time. This involved teaching the young people Transformational Leadership Skills.
Simon Edwards, AMI
I am a UK based mountaineering instructor working both in summer and winter conditions and a full member of the Association of Mountaineering Instructors (AMI).
I have been keen on sports and the outdoors since my school days and I have been trying to keep myself fit ever since with varying degrees of success. I joined the British Army at the age of of 16, where I spent 15 years challenging myself in a variety of ways both physically and mentally. During my military career I served across the globe in both peacetime and conflict situations, from Central America to Indonesia and Borneo.
After leaving the Army I completed an Honours Degree in Business Management, which tangentially led to work in the care and supported housing sector. During this period in my life I ‘re-discovered’ my love of the outdoors and since 2007 I have been making my living as an outdoor pursuits instructor.
I am currently based in North Wales, living among the mountains of Snowdonia during the summer months and then travelling to live in the Scottish Highlands for the winter season. I teach, assess and guide aspirant mountain professionals and rock climbers in summer and winter conditions. I also work with young people and adults who want to use the outdoors for personal and professional development.
In addition, I work, lead and travel further afield throughout the year, having led trips to the high mountains of Northern India, Ecuador and the Spanish Sierra Mountains. I’ve travelled on personal trips to the Peruvian Andes and India as well as rock climbing, mountaineering and skiing adventures to the Alps, across France, Spain, Italy and Croatia and North America.
